Fencing Finishes 2-3 at FDU Invitational

TEANECK, N.J. – The LIU Post fencing team returned to action at Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday, Feb. 25, posting a 2-3 record despite a shorthanded team.

The Pioneers competed with five student-athletes during the event, suffering losses at four vacant positions during each match. Despite starting with a 12-0 deficit, the team defeated Hunter College 15-12 in its opening match of the day. LIU Post continued its momentum into match number two where the team rallied to defeat the City College of New York, 15-12.

Despite the hot start, the Pioneers were tripped up by Tufts University, 16-11 in its third match before ending the day with setbacks to Johns Hopkins University and Brandeis University.

"I am very proud of the girls' performance," said head coach Mike Corona. "I am proud of the performance we have put forth and look forward to these five girls fencing in regional play this March."

The Pioneers return to action at the NCAA regional tournament held on March 10 and 11.
