Women's Fencing Competes at Vassar Invitational

Poughkeepsie, NY| The LIU Post women's fencing team competed in the Vassar College Invitational, at the Walker Field House on Sunday Afternoon. LIU Post won the opening round against Hunter (17-10) before dropping a match  to Drew University (10-17),  and earning a 15-12 win over Vassar College (11-16). The Pioneers suffered defeats to Sacred Heart University (8-19) and Wellesley College (7-20).

The Epee team had a strong showing against Hunter, Kirstan Shaw and Dominique Canton each tallied three wins a piece.

In the second round against Drew, Shaw and Hancox went undefeated in the epee bout, while Jennifer Pino earned a win in foil. In the third round against Vassar, the Epee team had a strong bout once again with Duncan, Hancox, and Shaw won all three epee bouts against the hosts to help carry the Pioneers to a 15-12 win.

Against Sacred Heart Univeristy, Duncan went 2-1 in epee, while in foil, Danielle Haye went 2-1.

In the final round against Wellesley, the Pioneers were held scoreless in saber and Pino earned the only point in foil. The Pioneers won the epee bout, 6-3 with another 3-0 performance from Duncan, while Shaw and Hancox contributed with a pair of wins.

LIU Post will return to the Walker Field House on Sunday, for the Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
