Women's Fencing Hosts LIU Post Invitational

Brookville, NY| The LIU Post women's fencing team hosted the LIU Post Invitation at the Pratt Recreation Center on Sunday afternoon. LIU Post competed against Hunter College, Farleigh Dickinson University, Wellesley College, Drew University, Yeshiva University, and DI Wagner College.  The Pioneers had an impressive showing winning four out of their six contest.
 
LIU Post dropped its opening match of the day 5-22 to Wellesley College,
 
In LIU Post's first match of Sunday's action, Kirstan Shaw and Chantelle Duncan both went 2-1 but the Epee team fell short with a 5-4 defeat to Wellesley. In foil, Jennifer Pino added the Pioneers only victory of the round.
 
In the third round, LIU Post's epee team stood out as the group went 8-1 paced by three victories from Shaw. Squad mates Chana Hancox tallied a perfect 3-0 record and Duncan contributed with two wins. In foil, Jessica Fuentes added a pair of victories against Wagner.
 
In the fourth round, LIU Post saw all three weapon groups earn wins, as epee was 9-0 thanks to three wins apiece from Duncan, Hancox, and Shaw. In sabre, Dominique Canton and Danielle Haye were 3-0, while Sophie Michaelides was 2-1.
 
Against Hunter, LIU Post's epee team once again shined, going 8-1 with three wins by Duncan and Hancox. Foilist Pino and Victoria Bogart was 3-0 as well.
 
The sabre team shined in a win over FDU, going 7-2. Canton chalked up three wins, while Hay and Michaelides compiled a 2-1 record. Shaw was 3-0 in epee for the Pioneers and Duncan went 2-1 against the Knights.
 
In the last match of the day, Shaw was 3-0 with Duncan going 2-1 for the Pioneers in Epee. LIU Post would be outmatch in sabre and foil dropping both contests 7-2.

The Pioneers will now turn their attention to the 2017 Vassar Invitational next Sunday, November 12 at 10 a.m.
