Madison, NJ| The LIU Post women's fencing team competed in the Drew invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers won the opening round against powerhouse D-I Florida (16-11) before dropping a match to Farleigh Dickinson (13-14). LIU Post earned a hard fought 16-11 victory over The College of New Jersey (11-16) but closed out the day with losses to host Drew and Haverford College.
In the opening round against Florida, the foil team went 6-3 as Dominique Canton went undefeated and Danielle Haye added with two wins. The epee continued its impressive season earning a 7-2 win as
Kirstan Shaw and
Chantelle Duncan earning three victories a piece.
In the second round against FDU, Haye went undefeated in the saber bout, while Canton and
Sophie Michaelides earned a pair of wins. In the third round against TCNJ, the epee team had a strong bout once again with Shaw winning all three of her bouts to help carry the Pioneers to a 16-11 win.
Against Drew, Hancox went undefeated once again in the epee bout, while Canton earned the team's only win in sabre.
In the final round against Haverford, the Pioneers edged out Haverford 5-4 in the sabre bout with Canton and Haye each earning two wins. The Pioneers won the eppe bout, 6-3, with another 3-0 performance from Shaw.
LIU Post will return to action against Wagner College in Staten Island, NY on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 9 AM.
