Women's Fencing Duels at Matt Lampell Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Nov. 22, 2016) - Over the weekend, the LIU Post women's fencing team returned to Vassar College for the Matt Lampell Hudson Valley Invitational, held at Walker Field House in Poughkeepsie.

Despite going 1-5 in their six matches, the Pioneers (1-13) earned their first victory of the 2016-17 season with a 14-13 win over CCNY.

Senior Kirstan Shaw (South Setauket, N.Y.) and junior Chantelle Duncan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the way for the green and gold, jousting to stellar 13-5 records in epee. Shaw and Duncan combined for 11 of their 26 wins against Army.

In sabre, senior Katie Niemir (Mineola, N.Y.) posted a 9-9 mark. She won all three of her bouts with CCNY and went 2-1 against Vassar. Graduate Kat Miraglia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had eight victories on the day, including a flawless 3-0 record versus CCNY.

Head Coach Mike Corona and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 10, when they host the LIU Post Invitational at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville.
