MADISON, N.J. (Nov. 8, 2015) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's fencing team went 2-2 at the Drew University Fall Fencing Classic, held in Madison.
The Pioneers beat Lafayette College, 19.5-7.5, and the City College of New York, 14.5-12.5, but fell to host Drew in two matches, 18-9 and 16-11.
After tying CCNY in the foil discipline, the Pioneers pulled away in sabre. Junior
Katie Niemir (Mineola, N.Y.) led the way with three victories. Senior
Kat Miraglia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and junior
Sophie Michaelides (Whitestone, N.Y.) both went 2-1, as the green and gold won the event, 7-2. Despite losing the epee discipline, 6-3, the Pioneers came away with the 14.5-12.5 win.
Against Lafayette, the Pioneers again tied in the foil event. In sabre, Niemir, Miraglia and Michaelides all came away with individual wins, while Lafayette forfeited six bouts. In epee, junior
Kirstan Shaw (South Setauket, N.Y.) and sophomore
Chantelle Duncan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) both went 3-0, as the Pioneers took the event, 6-3, and the match, 19.7-7.5
