John Hamilton completed his fifth season as an assistant coach with the LIU Post wrestling program in 2018-19.
Hamilton has been a major contributor to the wrestling team and has guiding an LIU Post squad that has produced four All-Americans.
Hamilton, a 2010 National Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee for his 40 years of service, coached 18 seasons at the varsity level at the East Meadow, Calhoun, Mepham and Oceanside school districts. He boasted a dual record of 193-73-2, including nine Section VIII tournament bids and two Nassau County Championships. Under his mentoring, Hamilton helped produce 87 Section VIII place-winners, 10 Section VIII champions and eight New York State place-winners.
Hamilton was a four-year collegiate wrestler at Central Connecticut State University, where he was a three-time New England runner-up and two-time Top-8 place-winner at the NCAA Division II Championships.
Now retired, Hamilton wore the hats of physical education teacher, athletic director and coach throughout his career, coaching soccer and lacrosse as well. He is a certified wrestling official and wore the stripes for Section VIII matches last year. Hamilton was also selected to officiate the 2014 New York State Tournament.
Hamilton currently resides in West Islip, N.Y. with his wife, Suzanne.
