SPARKILL, N.Y. – The LIU Post baseball team turned in another dominant offensive performance Saturday at Palisades Credit Union Park as the Pioneers totaled 20 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Thomas Aquinas College. LIU Post prevailed 11-6 in the first game and 9-4 in the second.
 
The Pioneers amassed 22 hits on the day including three home runs courtesy of senior Michael Manzione, senior Dave Brehm and junior Zach Fritz. They also had 19 RBI on another successful day at the plate.
 
Sophomore Christopher Wasson led the way for the Pioneers, recording five hits and hitting .556 throughout the doubleheader. Brehm finished with four hits and four RBI while Manzione had three hits and three RBI.
 
Junior Noah Lorenzo earned the win in game one, striking out six in six innings while junior Mike Lazos had the save. Junior Mike Stiles had the win game two.
 
Game One – LIU Post 11, Saint Thomas Aquinas 6
Ciaccio led off the top of the first with a triple to left center and scored on a throwing error as LIU Post took an early 1-0 lead but by the bottom of the fifth the Spartans had jumped ahead 3-1.
 
The Pioneers battled back in the top of the sixth as Manzione launched a homer to left center and Mendyk singled to left field, scoring Camilo and Vaglica to give LIU Post a 4-3 advantage.
 
The Spartans tied it up in the bottom of the sixth but a Fritz grand slam to right field saw the Pioneers jump ahead 8-4. LIU Post added three more runs with an RBI single to left field by Manzione seeing the game finish with a final score of 11-6.
 
Game Two – LIU Post 9, Saint Thomas Aquinas 4
The Pioneers also started off game two on a high note thanks to a three-RBI homer from Brehm and an RBI double from freshman David Franchi in the top of the first that gave the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.
 
LIU Post added two more runs in the top of the second and while the Spartans would make it a 6-3 game in the bottom of the fifth, a two-RBI double by senior Ryan Dalton in the top of the seventh made it an 8-3 contest. Both sides would add one more run as the Pioneers held on for the 9-4 victory.
