Women's Bowling Wraps up Season at ECC Championships

Freshman Rhianna Smith garners all-tournament honors

READING, Pa. – The LIU Post women's bowling team wrapped up its 2018-19 campaign at the East Coast Conference Championships from Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24 at Hiester Lanes.

The Green and Gold finished the first day seeded seventh heading into the double-elimination format of the championship on Saturday despite earning just one head-to-head victory in five matches. LIU Post toppled 4,625 pins on the first day and entered Saturday's championship event against 10th-seeded Felician University.

The Pioneers opened the event on a high note, defeating Felician by a 4-2 margin during the best-of-7 format. Despite falling behind by two games early, LIU Post rallied to take the next four games to advance to face No. 2 seed Adelphi University who earned a first-round bye in the championship bracket.

After dropping the first game by a single pin (179-178), the Pioneers bounced back with a 204-189 victory in game two to level the match at 1-1. The nationally-ranked Panthers proved to be too much, however, as Adelphi took the next three games to advance. The Pioneers squared off with No. 8 seed Roberts Wesleyan College in the elimination contest and took an early 2-1 lead after three games before ultimately seeing its season come to an end as the Redhawks took the final three games of the match.

Freshman Rhianna Smith earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her performance over the weekend. Smith netted a 209.1 average game with a 20.91 frame average during the baker format. With a strike percentage of 50.4, Smith added a filled frame percentage of 92.9 and an 83.3 makeable spare percentage for the event. Sophomore Emily Cavanaugh added an average game of 190 and classmate Patricia Kelly added a 172 average for the Pioneers.
