INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Punching its ticket to the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Tournament with the East Coast Conference's automatic bid, the LIU Post Pioneers claimed the No. 4 overall seed in the East Regional as announced by the NCAA May 7.
The Pioneers will make the short trip to Garden City as Adelphi University captured the No. 1 overall seed and will host the four-team regional. LIU Post will battle No. 5 seed Le Moyne College on Thursday, May 10 at 2:30 p.m. Rounding out the East Region 1 bracket is No. 8 seed Caldwell University in the double-elimination format.
The Green and Gold officially secured its spot in the national tournament when it defeated Molloy College in the winner-take-all game of the East Coast Conference Championship, 4-1. The tournament's Most Outstanding Player, sophomore
Abbey Fortin finished 3-for-4 at the plate in the championship contest, lifting a solo home run to give LIU Post the lead in the fourth inning. Junior
Hannah Olshevski tossed a complete game, allowing one run on four hits to earn the win.
