BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Head coach Joseph Patrovich announced the 2018-19 recruitment class for the LIU Post wrestling team this week, a very decorated squad that includes a national champion and five all-state athletes to complement a very talented core returning to the mat next season.
The Pioneers will have 11 incoming freshmen joining next year's roster. "This is the best recruiting class we have had in four years," remarked Patrovich. "This class includes a national champion, a high school All-American, a state champion, and five all-state members. We expect big things from these guys next season."
Justin Vines – Wantagh H.S. (133)
Vines enters LIU Post as the 2018 National High School Coaches Association national champion in the 133-pound weight class. The Wantagh graduate was the New York State runner-up as a senior and also finished runner-up at the Easter States Championships. As a junior, he claimed the New York State title at 126-pounds and added a fourth-place finish as a sophomore. For his career, Vines garnered three Nassau County championships, four county finals appearances, and five county places.
Chris Gomez – Patchogue-Medford H.S. (141)
Gomez brings another very successful high school career to Brookville, tallying two Suffolk County championships during his four years at Patchogue-Medford. As a senior, Gomez was the New York State Champion at 138-pounds and also took home first in the Eastern States Championship. As a junior he placed second in the Suffolk County championship, finishing fifth at the state tournament.
James Langan – Wantagh H.S. (174/184)
The younger brother of 2018 graduate
Matt Langan, James was a 2018 NHSCA All-American in the 182-pound weight class. During the same season, Langan won the Nassau County championship to close out four county placings during his career.
Anthony Dushaj – Half Hollow Hills West (157)
Dushaj closed out his high school career at Half Hollow Hills West with a fifth-place finish in the 152-pound weight class at the New York State tournament, adding a runner-up finish at the Suffolk County championship. During his final season, he added an impressive first-place finish at the War at the Shore tournament.
Tim Nagosky – Smithtown West H.S. (285)
Entering LIU Post in the heavyweight class, Nagosky finished fourth at the 2018 New York State tournament. Also as a senior, he finished third at the Suffolk County championship, improving on a fourth-place finish during his junior season.
Dan Shafron – Bellmore John F. Kennedy H.S. (197)
Shafron can expect to make an immediate impact in the 197-pound weight class. As a senior, Shafron placed fourth at the New York State tournament and added a third-place finish at the Nassau County championship.
Brendon Mercado – Bellmore John F. Kennedy H.S. (125)
As a senior, Mercado finished third in the Nassau County championship and will add depth to the roster with sophomore Nicholas Conetta.
Justin Popp – Haddak Killingworth H.S. (157)
