Game One – LIU Post 11, Queens 4
The Pioneer offense came to life in game one, as LIU Post exploded for 15 hits and 11 runs. Fortin gave the Green and Gold an early advantage with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, sending a shot deep over the right-center field fence.
Queens answered quickly, however, scoring four runs in the top of the second inning behind a three-run double by
Jessica Hickey. Despite trailing 4-1, LIU Post plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to level the scoring, as senior
Gianna Gatto doubled home one run and Seader singled home Gatto later in the inning to make it 4-4 after two innings.
The Pioneers scored in their next three plate appearances, as Klaiber hit a solo home run to left field, and Dun added a two-run double in the fifth before Fortin followed up two batters later with a two-run home run to put the game out of reach.
Junior
Hannah Olshevski earned her eighth win of the season in the circle, striking out eight batters.
Game Two – LIU Post 3, Queens 1
LIU Post took the lead early again in game two, as Seader scored on a dropped throw at first base for the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. The offenses cooled off after game one, however, and both teams went scoreless during the second and third innings before Queens tied the score on an RBI-single in the top of the fourth inning. The score remained deadlocked until the bottom of the fifth, when Klaiber singled through the left side to drive home two runs to give the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage.
Humhej allowed two baserunners in the top of the sixth but stranded both runners before retiring the side in order in the seventh to help secure the victory.
The Pioneers return to action when they host Mercy College on Saturday, April 7 at 12:00 p.m.
