Women's Bowling Closes Out Season at ECC Championships

PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. – The LIU Post bowling team closed out its season this weekend at the East Coast Conference bowling championships hosted by Adelphi University at Port Jeff Bowl March 23 and 24.

Freshman Emily Cavanaugh led the Pioneers on the weekend with a 173 average for the event. To begin the tournament, the Pioneers compiled a 3,839 pin total during five baker matches, averaging 153.6 pins per game.

To begin the elimination tournament, the Pioneers battled No. 7 seed Chestnut Hill College in a best-of-7 game series. After taking games one and two, the Pioneers tied Griffins in the third game before Chestnut Hill took the next three. Cavanaugh rolled three strikes in game seven to help force a five-frame tiebreaker, but the Griffins came away with a 99-94 victory to send the Pioneers into the loser's bracket.

LIU Post was matched with No. 9 seed Kutztown University in this morning's opening matchup, but the Golden Bears earned four straight victories in the best-of-seven series, dropping out of the conference tournament.
