CLERMONT, Fla. – The LIU Post softball team closed out its eight-game stretch at the PFX Games with a victory against Jefferson University and a setback to Augustana University March 10.
Sophomore
Abbey Fortin had an excellent day at the plate, finishing 4-for-7 with a home run, triple, 4 runs batted in and a run scored. Junior
Julia Seader added four hits as well, hitting a solo home run and scoring two runs. Freshman
Cameron Lischinsky added two hits and an RBI, while senior
Gianna Gatto recorded a multi-hit day as well.
In the circle, junior
Hannah Olshevski tossed her second three-hit shutout at the PFX Games, striking out four batters to earn her third win of the season.
Game One – Augustana 6, LIU Post 1
Augustana took control early and held off the Pioneers in LIU Post's opening game of its final day in the Sunshine State. After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings jumped ahead when
Ashley Mickschi sent an RBI-double to center field, and later scored on an RBI-single by
Kaylea Schorr to give Augustana a 2-0 advantage.
The Vikings tacked on another run in the top of the third, but LIU Post got on the board in the bottom half of the frame when freshman
Patricia Dun scored on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit down to two runs. It would be the last run the Pioneers could push across, however, as Augustana allowed just one runner to reach scoring position during the Pioneers' final three at-bats and added three more runs the rest of the way to earn the 6-1 victory.
Game Two – LIU Post 5, Jefferson 0
Olshevski did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, and allowed just one base runner during the fifth and sixth innings to help close out the win.
The Pioneers took the lead in the top of the first inning when Fortin blasted a two-run home run to center field for all the run support that Olshevski needed. Seader added a solo shot down the right field line in the fifth, and Fortin helped put an exclamation point on the win with a two-run triple to right field in the seventh inning.
LIU Post is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, March 15 when they travel to local rival Adelphi University at 12:00 p.m.
