GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – It was a historic evening for the No. 9 LIU Post field hockey team as senior Emily Miller broke the program's career goals record in the Pioneers' 4-0 win over Adelphi University Thursday at Motamed Field.

Miller, who has now scored 83 goals in her career, surpassed Carlee Dragon for the career record in goals scored. The record had stood since 2013.

"Today's win was awesome," said head coach Raenee Savin. "We played with so much heart and passion. The connection between everyone on the field was spot on. I couldn't be more proud of Emily for breaking the school's career scoring record. She has worked so hard for this and has been a huge part of our success for the past four years. She's not done yet!"
The win moved the Pioneers to 9-4 overall and 7-3 in the Northeast-10. LIU Post's all-time record against Adelphi now stands at 12-3.

Sophomore Sammy Bell led the Pioneers with two goals while Miller and freshman Maddie Leitner each had one. Miller also added an assist, as did junior Sarah Anthony. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Vellis finished with eight saves and her fourth clean sheet of the season.

LIU Post had 21 shots and 14 shots on goal to 12 and eight by Adelphi. The Pioneers also had an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners.

Bell scored the game's opening goal as she rebounded the ball of her own shot at 10:31. She then shot past the goalkeeper at 16:14 after receiving a pass from Miller on the left side to give LIU Post a 2-0 lead.

Miller's record-breaking goal came at 21:26 after she dribbled past a defender off a penalty corner.

LIU Post's final goal came at 70:00 as Leitner scored off an assist from Anthony.
