BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Led by a two-goal effort by graduate student Lukas Ostermann, the LIU Post men's soccer team took down Jefferson, 3-1 at Pioneer Soccer Park on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The Pioneers extended their current win-streak to three games with the victory, improving to 11-4 on the season. Jefferson drops to 7-7-2 with the loss.

Wednesday's contest was the penultimate regular season game for the Green and Gold who take on the New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the 2018 edition of the Battle of the Boulevard as the team looks to bolster its case for a top seed in the East Coast Conference Tournament and a bid into the NCAA Division II championship.

Junior Yohance Alexander helped the Pioneers jump out to an early advantage on the home field, scoring in the 14th minute from the left side of the penalty area to put LIU Post ahead, 1-0. The Rams battled back later in the period after drawing a foul just outside the penalty area during the 37th minute. Jason Rocha hit a shot to the far right post that snuck by junior Matias Pesallaccia to pull the score even. It was LIU Post who took advantage of a late foul, however, when Jefferson's Andrew Sauers was assessed a red card for a foul in the box, and Ostermann buried the ensuing penalty kick to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead at the halftime break.

It took less than 10 minutes for Ostermann to put the game out of reach for good when senior Vittorio Argeri sent a cross into the box that Ostermann finished off for his 22nd goal of the season, tying him with Santiago Agudelo of Fort Hays State for the lead in Division II.

Pesallaccia stopped one more shot during the second half to earn the victory in goal as the Pioneers held on the rest of the way for the two-goal margin.
