BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 7, 2018) - On Sunday, LIU Post held Long Island Wrestling Day at the Pratt Recreation Center. The event played host to six top-flight college programs (LIU Post, Hofstra, Columbia, UNC-Pembroke, Clarion and AIC). A packed house watched on as the Pioneers fought past UNC Pembroke (20-18) before dropping the events final match to Clarion (24-14).

LIU Post 20, UNC Pembroke 18
After dropping the opening bout of the match, the Pioneers rallied off three straight wins to take control of the match early. Those wins by sophomore Anthony Sparacio (7-2), Junior Joe Calderone (Fall) and Junior Peter DeTore (12-1) were able to stretch the lead to 13-5  
 
Senior Jackson Mordente majored his opponent at 165 to extend the lead to 17-8. In the final bout of the match freshman Damien Caffrey held on to win giving the Green and Gold the 20-18 team victory.

Clarion 24, LIU Post 14
In the final match of the day the Pioneers provided some individual fireworks on the mat, but were unable to secure the team result they were looking for.
 
Sparacio was able to score his second victory of the day as he defeated his opponent by technical fall (22-6). T.J Fabian impressed as he was able to put six points on the board with his fall, pinning the Golden Eagles 157 pounder. At 174 pounds, junior Dan Arkow was able to score a decision by the score of 8-3.
