NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Talya Williams earned two victories to lead the LIU Post women's indoor track and field team at the 36
th Yale Intercollegiate Track Classic at the Coxe Cage Jan. 13.
Williams took home first place in both the one-mile run and the 3,000-meter run. The senior earned her first victory by outracing
Lindsey Lucas of Sacred Heart University by nearly five seconds, crossing the finish line in 5:04.04. The Schenectady native later took first in the 3,000 with a time of 10:21.37, winning by a 16-second margin.
Continuing the success in the distance events, sophomore
Alexandria Okon recorded a time of 2:18.88, finishing less than a second behind Manhattan College's
Kelly Gorman.
Freshman
Jacqueline Ginty led the Pioneer sprinters with two top-five finishes. In the 60-meter dash, Ginty crossed the line in 7.90 seconds, good enough for second place. In the 200-meter dash, Ginty clocked a time of 26.87 to finish fifth of 35 competitors. Freshman
Nataly Ramirez also added a top-five finish in the 400-meter dash, taking third with a time of 1:01.92.
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Klein led the Pioneer field athletes, finishing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 11.38 meters, and added a sixth-place finish in the weight throw with 12.89 meters.
The Pioneers return to the track on Friday, Jan. 19, when they participate in the Ramapo College Season Opener at The Armory.
