Coming off a third Division II National Championship game appearance in four years, the LIU Post field hockey team was predicted to finish third in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced earlier this month.
Saint Anselm topped the poll, while Stonehill, Merrimack and Adelphi rounded out the top five.
The Pioneers return junior
Emily Miller, who was showered with postseason accolades. Miller was named to the All-NE-10 First Team, ECAC All-Star First Team, NFHCA All-America First Team and the Synapse Sports All-America First Team after leading the team with 21 goals, 47 points and 10 game-winning goals. The Bridgewater, N.J., native also scored the game-winning goals against St. Anselm in both the NE-10 Championship game and the NCAA Tournament.
Additionally, sophomore midfielder
Arantxa Rosainz Caloca was honored on the Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team last season. She collected five goals and two assists in 2016 for a 12-point output, and helped to lead a defensive unit that paced the league and ranked fifth in the nation in goals-against average (0.92).
LIU Post opens the 2017 campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when the Pioneers square off against Westchester (Pa.) at 4 p.m.
