CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May 25, 2017) - On Wednesday, junior
Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and graduate
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) of the LIU Post men's and women's track and field teams were each named the East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their respective sports.
Gioe, who owns a 3.93 grade-point average in Mathematics and Physics, garnered ECC Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction for outdoor track and field. He was the league champion in the 10,000-meter run with a 3:36.63 clocking at the ECC Championships.
Meanwhile, Stirling, a 4.0 GPA student in her graduate coursework, was tabbed as the ECC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for indoor track and field. She won All-ECC honors in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter run, after crossing at respective times of 10:41.24 and 18:26.43 at the league meet.
