PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Apr. 16, 2017)
- Over the weekend, the LIU Post men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Metropolitan Championships, hosted by Rutgers University in Piscataway.

The men's team was led by freshman Justin Ortega (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who came in seventh in the 400-meter hurdles at a personal-best 58.49.

Red-shirt junior Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.) placed eighth in the 200-meter dash at 22.81. Fellow red-shirt junior Ramel Joseph (Jamaica, N.Y.) and freshman Tomiichi Hayden (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) each won their respective heat at 23.09 and 25.24.

Joseph also crossed at 11.48 in the 100-meter dash. Red-shirt sophomore Kasim Thomas (Bronx, N.Y.) followed at 11.52 in the same event.

In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Jermaine Ifill (Flushing, N.Y.) completed the sprint in a time of 51.86.

For the women, freshman Nicolette Agostinacchio (Wantagh, N.Y.) won her heat in the 800-meter run at 2:21.84. She also led off the Pioneers' 4 x 800-meter relay, which finished fourth at 9:50.62.

Freshman Alexandria Okon (Laurel, Md.) was second in her heat in the 800-meter run, clocking a 2:22.31.

Meanwhile, junior Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) posted a fifth-place time of 18:04.42 in the 5,000-meter run. Graduate Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) took ninth at 18:38.71.

Senior Charlene Hickey (East Meadow, N.Y.) notched a personal-record 1:06.89 in the 400-meter dash. Graduate Ashlin Conroy (Syosset, N.Y.) ran an 11:54.84 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Lastly, in the field events, freshman Kaitlyn Klein (Richmondville, N.Y.) came in sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 34.62 meters (113 feet, 7 inches). Junior Kari Kyrkjeboe Fredheim (Nannestad, Norway) added an eighth-place heave of 34.32 meters (112 feet. 7 inches).

Head Coach Kevin Buckley and his LIU Post squads return to action Saturday (Apr. 22), when they vie for a league title at the East Coast Conference Championships in West Nyack, N.Y. at 11 a.m.
