NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Sept. 4, 2016) - On Sunday, the LIU Post women's soccer team defeated American International College, 2-1, in the Pioneers' final contest of the SCSU Women's Soccer Classic, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field.

The Pioneers (2-0) outshot the Yellow Jackets (0-2), 11-9, and held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

In the very first minute, AIC was awarded a corner kick that the Pioneers defended. On the ensuing counter attack, sophomore forward Isabella Fuduli (East Meadow, N.Y.) found a lane and blasted one in from 10 yards out just out of the reach of Madison Brown (Medford, N.Y.) and under the bar for the instant 1-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the 24th minute and the teams headed into halftime knotted at 1-all.

Neither keeper made a save in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, the green and gold turned up the offense. The Pioneers rattled off eight shots to the Yellow Jackets' five.

In the 66th minute, freshman forward Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal, off assists by Fuduli and sophomore forward Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden), to give the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage.

AIC would take three shots in the final 21 minutes of play, none of which were on target. Sophomore keeper Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) made one save in the win.

Head Coach Mark Dawson and his Pioneers return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 7), when they host Southern Connecticut State in the green and gold's 2016 home opener. The opening kick is slated for 4 p.m. from Pioneer Soccer Park.
