STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Dec. 2, 2016) - The LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams kicked off the 2016-17 season Friday at the Metro Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
Freshman
Jeffrey Reyes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the men's side with fifth-place showings in the 800-meter run (2:01.53) and mile run (4:24.76).
Fellow freshman
Will Coelho (Shirley, N.Y.) added a 14th-place time of 2:06.86 in the 800-run, while junior
Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) was 16th (4:44.21) in the mile.
In the 200-meter dash, sophomore
Jermaine Ifill (Flushing, N.Y.) won his heat in a personal-best 23.13 and finished 12th in the process. Junior
Richard Taylor (Westbury, N.Y.) came in 18th (23.75) in the same event.
Freshman
Twary McKenzie (Huntington, N.Y.) leapt to respective distances of 5.74 meters (18 feet, 10 inches) in the long jump and 12.64 meters (41 feet, 5.75 inches) in the triple jump.
For the women, freshman
Kaitlyn Klein (Richmondville, N.Y.) stole the show, breaking the school record in the shot put with a fifth-place throw of 11.81 meters (38 feet, 9 inches).
In the mile, graduate
Ashlin Conroy (Syosset, N.Y.) crossed at a ninth-place time of 5:23.24. She also ran the second leg of the Pioneers' 4 x 200-meter relay, which finished second at 10:11.40.
In her Pioneer debut, junior
Kari Kyrkjeboe Fredheim (Nannestad, Norway) made the finals of the weight throw with a heave of 10.55 meters (34 feet, 7.5 inches).
Head Coach
Kevin Buckley and his LIU Post squad return to action next Friday (Dec. 9), when they compete at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College at 2 p.m. at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
