BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2016) - The LIU Post women's basketball team kicked off its 2016-17 East Coast Conference slate Wednesday with an 82-76 victory over New York Institute of Technology at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Freshman forward
Mikaiya Moore (Amityville, N.Y.) recorded her second collegiate double-double in the win. She scored 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Trailing 50-47 in the final minutes of regulation, the Pioneers (3-2, 1-0 ECC) reeled off an 12-2 run to rally to a 60-52 lead with 16 seconds remaining. Senior guard
Kylie Garrett (Mount Orab, Ohio) ignited the burst with a three-pointer. Senior forward
Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) capped it off with a 1-for-2 trip to the foul line.
In the third quarter, the two squads were tied at 28-all, until a 10-0 streak by the green and gold gave the hosts a 38-28 advantage at the 1:07 mark. Garrett provided five points in the spurt.
However, in the fourth quarter, NYIT (4,2 0-1 ECC) came back from an eight-point deficit (40-32) to go in front 50-47 with 2:58 left, via an 18-7 run.
Garrett collected 14 points and eight rebounds in the victory. Senior guard
Kristen Olsen (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 11 points, three assists and two rebounds. Red-shirt freshman guard
Robyn Francis (Rosedale, N.Y.) had nine rebounds, four assists, two points and two blocks. James added five boards, four points and two blocks.

Deirdre Moore and her LIU Post squad return to action Sunday (Nov. 27), when they host Bloomfield College in a non-conference showdown at the Pratt Recreation Center at 1:30 p.m.
