BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2015) - Senior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) and freshman forward
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lamberville, N.Y.) each scored a second-half goal to propel the LIU Post field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Dowling College Wednesday at Golden Lions Field.
Following a scoreless opening half, Zelkovsky broke the stalemate in the 52nd minute. On a penalty corner, she fired a shot into the lower-right corner of the cage to give the Pioneers (4-3) the lead. The goal was Zelkovsky's third in her last four contests.
Then, in the 69th minute, Margiotta, despite being stopped only seconds earlier, got redemption to widen the green and gold's advantage. After stealing the ball away from a defender, Margiotta beat Dowling senior goalie Ariana Ovadia (East Meadow, N.Y.) in front of a crowded cage to make it a 2-0 game.
The Pioneers, who recorded 19 shots on the day, limited the Golden Lions (2-6) to only one shot. LIU Post also owned a 12-3 edge in penalty corners.
