Field Hockey Stumbles at No. 8 Saint Anselm, 2-0
Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. (Oct. 3, 2015) - The LIU Post field hockey team returned to Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Saint Anselm College at Grappone Stadium.
The Hawks (7-1, 3-1 NE-10) broke through for the game's first goal in the 22nd minute. Sophomore forward Emma Kincaid (West Bridgewater, Mass.) put back a rebound to give the hosts the lead.
Meanwhile, the Pioneers (4-4, 1-3 NE-10), who trailed 1-0 at the intermission, were held without a shot on goal for the first 35 minutes.
During the second half, LIU Post was stopped on several early chances to bury the equalizer, before Saint Anselm added an insurance marker in the 67th minute.
Senior forward Colleen Sears (Danvers, Mass.) carried the ball up the endline and stuffed a shot inside the right post, widening the Hawks' advantage to 2-0.
That proved to be all Saint Anselm needed, as LIU Post was kept off the board for the remainder of the contest.
Senior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) led all players with five shots (one SOG) on the day. Sophomore forward
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) added two shots on goal.
Overall, the Pioneers owned an 8-7 edge in shots and an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners.
