Field Hockey Tops NE-10 Preseason Poll

MANSFIELD, Mass. (Aug 28, 2015)
- The LIU Post field hockey team was listed first in the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office on Friday.

The Pioneers, who are coming off back-to-back national runner-up campaigns and an NE-10 regular-season title, received five first-place votes and 135 total points, edging second-place Adelphi by eight points and three first-place votes. Stonehill was a close third in the poll with 125 points and four first-place nods.

The green and gold return reigning NE-10 Offensive Player of the Year and NFHCA First Team All-American Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.). Margiotta led the nation in 2014 in points per game and goals per game, averaging 3.73 and 1.5, respectively. She also ranked second amongst all of Division II with 0.73 assists per contest.

LIU Post is slated to face four programs ranked in the NFHCA Preseason Top-10 this year. The Pioneers are set to square off against No. 5 Stonehill (Sept. 27), No. 6 East Stroudsburg (Oct. 26), No. 7 Adelphi (Oct. 7) and No. 10 Merrimack (Sept. 19).

Head Coach Raenee Savin and her squad open the 2015 season on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they host Bentley University for a non-conference showdown at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. The contest is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
