BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 21, 2015) - Last Friday, the LIU Post field hockey team raised money for cancer awareness by participating in the school's second-annual Relay For Life at the Pratt Recreation Center.
In all, 10 Pioneers put in two hours apiece at the event in support of the cause. They also donated a total of $100 to benefit the American Cancer Society.
"The Relay For Life event at LIU Post had a personal relevance to me, because my mother passed away from colon cancer," said sophomore
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.). "It moved me and confimed that everyone's struggle and heartbreak can be transformed into a better future for all those touched by cancer."
In 2014, the entire LIU Post community raised $50,000 for cancer research, as part of its inaugural Relay For Life initiative. Leading into this year's event, a total of $19,000 had been accumulated.
