BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2015) - On Friday evening, the LIU Post men's basketball team shot at a dazzling 50.8 percent clip from the floor, en route to picking up a 79-56 win over East Coast Conference foe Daemen at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Senior guard
Isiah Stokley (Queens, N.Y.) went off for a game- and season-high 19 points. He was 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range. Senior forward
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) had 18 points (9-14 FG) and six rebounds. Senior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) amassed 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Prior to the contest, Stokley, Williams, Torres and senior forward
Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) were honored in a "Senior Night" ceremony.
It didn't take long for the Pioneers (15-12, 10-9 ECC) to get going. LIU Post started the first half on an 11-2 run, over the opening 5:54. Torres netted back-to-back jumpers to spark the scoring. Williams poured in the final four points of the burst, via a jay and a put-back lay-up.
Later in the period, the Wildcats (18-9, 13-6 ECC) had closed the gap to 18-14, but a 25-6 streak by LIU Post to close out the session sent the hosts into the break with a commanding 43-20 advantage. Eight different players for the green and gold scored a point in the run, led by Williams' six.
The hosts, who boasted a .529 field-goal percentage (18-of-34) in the first 20 minutes, dominated their opposition in the paint (26-8), off turnovers (16-2), on second-chance opportunities (9-2) and on the fast break (12-2) in the half.
In the latter stanza, the Pioneers built a lead as large as 29 points nearly five minutes in and never looked back. Stokley buried a jumper in the paint at the 15:06 mark to make it a 56-27 game.
