BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2015) - The LIU Post volleyball team claimed its fourth-consecutive sweep Tuesday evening, topping Caldwell University, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-13), in non-conference action at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Senior middle hitter Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) paced the Pioneers (14-4) with nine kills, and recorded a .300 hitting percentage in the process. Junior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) and sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied eight kills apiece. Valenza also collected 11 digs and served four aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio), who tallied 11 digs, and senior setter/right-side hitter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) each had six kills. Freshman setter Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) amassed 26 assists and nine digs, while serving two aces and rejecting two blocks.

In the first set, LIU Post jumped out to a 10-3 lead, spearheaded by a three-kill, two-block effort from Hansen. The Pioneers eventually built as much as a nine-point advantage (17-8) in the game, on Hansen's last kill of the game.

The Cougars (13-7) battled back though and trimmed their deficit to 19-18, but LIU Post, coming out of a timeout, scored six of the set's final eight points to win it, 25-20. Valenza and McCullouch both notched a pair of kills in that stretch. Hansen and Genna combined for a block on Caldwell's Rachael DiLeonardo (Milton, Ga.) for the clinching point.

Trailing 4-3 in the second set, the Pioneers went on a 7-0 spurt to grab a 10-4 advantage. Valenza served six points in the run, which included three service aces.

LIU Post, despite Caldwell's rally to close the gap to 11-9, later widened their cushion to 18-11. The hosts never looked back from there, as a Hansen kill and Londot ace secured a 25-21 victory.

In the third set, the green and gold capitalized on 11 Cougar errors (nine attack, one reception, one set), en route to earning the sweep. Addtionally, the Pioneers got four kills from Amador and three from Valenza and Londot to cruise to a 25-13 win.

Head Coach Shellane Ogoshi and her LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Oct. 10), when they host Daemen College in an East Coast Conference match at noon at the Pratt Recreation Center.
