PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2015) - The LIU Post volleyball team attacked at a combined .333 clip Saturday, as the Pioneers bested Le Moyne College and Pace University at the Goldstein Fit Center in Pleasantville.

Match #1: LIU Post 3, Le Moyne 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16)
The Pioneers hit at a .300-plus percentage in two of the three sets, en route to a 3-0 win versus the Dolphins (12-4). Sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) recorded a match-best 16 kills, alongsiide nine digs. Senior middle hitter Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added eight kills and one solo block.

Freshman outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) and junior middle hitter Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) each tallied seven kills. Londot also scooped up 14 digs. Freshman setter Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) posted a double-double (38 assists, 13 digs), in addition to slamming down four kills and rejecting one block.

In a tight first set, LIU Post held a slight 20-19 edge, until a run of five straight points put the Pioneers ahead in the contest. Valenza, McCullouch and Hansen notched one kill apiece in the spurt.

Leading 5-3 in the second set, the green and gold went on a 12-3 streak to expand their advantage to double digits (17-6). Valenza led the way once again, earning two kills and two blocks. McCullouch had a pair of blocks and a kill. The Pioneers eventually cruised to a 25-18 win, on a kill by Genna.

Tied 4-4 in the third set, LIU Post rolled off a 10-2 run to grab a 14-6 lead, forcing a Le Moyne timeout. Three different players (Londot, Hansen, Genna) capped the burst with kills for the Pioneers.

That proved to be all the green and gold needed, as they secured the sweep with a 25-16 victory. An ace by freshman libero Natalie Miller (Scottsdale, Ariz.) aided in the effort.

Match #2: LIU Post 3, Pace 0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-22)
In LIU Post's (13-4) three-set victory at Pace (7-11), McCullouch tallied a match-best 13 kills and .556 attack percentage. Senior setter/right-side hitter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) had 11 kills, five digs and one block. Genna allocated 35 assists and collected 10 digs for a double-double. Londot pitched in 16 digs and three kills.

The Pioneers and Setters played a first set, similar to that of the first against Le Moyne. In a game with six tied scores and three lead changes, the two squads were even at 20-20, before back-to-back blocks gave LIU Post the lead for good. Shortly thereafter, a kill and block by freshman middle/right-side hitter Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) clinched a 25-22 win for the visitors.

During the second set, LIU Post jumped out to an 8-1 advantage and never relinquished it. Amador slammed down three kills, while Londot served eight consecutive points, including an ace. The green and gold soon built as much as a 10-point cushion (21-11) in the game and breezed to a 25-16 victory.

Knotted at 4-all in the third set, the Pioneers went on a 9-1 spurt to grab a 13-5 lead. McCullouch accounted for six points in the run, including five kills. McCullouch registered nine kills and a 1.000 hitting percentage in the set alone.

The Setters later managed to close the gap to 24-22, but a kill by Strange, off a pass from Valenza, nailed down the sweep for LIU Post.

Head Coach Shellane Ogoshi and the Pioneers return to action Tuesday (Oct. 6), when they open a four-match homestand at the Pratt Recreation Center versus non-conference foe Caldwell University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
