BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2015) - The LIU Post field hockey team won its fifth-straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating Northeast-10 Conference rival American International College, 3-1, at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Freshman forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) got the Pioneers (10-5, 6-4 NE-10) on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute. After
Kaycee Zelkovsky's
(Lamberville, N.J.) shot was initially blocked, Miller stuffed home the rebound to stake the green and gold to a one-goal lead.
LIU Post, which held AIC (3-13, 2-9 NE-10) without a shot in the opening 35 minutes of play, brought that 1-0 advantage into the break.
In the second half, senior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) netted a pair of unanswered goals in an 11-minute span to widen the hosts' lead to 3-0.
Less than two minutes into the period, Margiotta put back a Miller rebound. She followed that up by tapping a
Bailey Martin (Honesdale, Pa.) pass into the cage in the 49th minute.
The Pioneers outshot the Yellow Jackets, 14-3, in the contest. Meanwhile, AIC earned seven penalty corners to LIU Post's five.
Between the pipes, LIU Post junior goalie
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made one save in 70 minutes of work. Her counterpart, Taylor Ross (Stroudsburg, Pa.), turned aside six shots for AIC.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers return to action Monday (Oct. 26), when they wrap up the home portion of their 2015 schedule against top-ranked East Stroudsburg University at 4 p.m.
