Volleyball Loses at Dowling, 3-0
Box Score OAKDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2015) - On Tuesday night, the LIU Post volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat (23-25, 19-25, 19-25) at the hands of Dowling College in an East Coast Conference tilt at Dowling Gymnasium.
Junior middle hitter
Taryn McCullouch (Buena Park, Calif.) and sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied a team-high seven kills apiece. Freshman outside hitter
Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio) notched five kills, in addition to collecting 11 digs. Senior setter/right-side hitter
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) recorded seven digs, five kills and one service ace.
Trailing 16-9 in the opening set, the Pioneers (17-7, 5-4 ECC) fought back to take a 20-19 lead, via a 11-3 run. McCullouch put down three kills in the burst. LIU Post also capitalized on three Dowling (17-5, 7-2 ECC) errors.
However, the Golden Lions squeaked out a 25-23 win in a tightly-contested first game. Tied at 22-22, Dragana Jelovac (Tivat, Montenegro) and Jessica Kalbfleisch (Ridge, N.Y.) each put down a kill to give the hosts a one-set cushion in the match.
The second set featured more back-and-forth between the two squads, as LIU Post and Dowling traded 14 tied scores and nine lead changes.
Knotted at 17-all, a four-point run by the Golden Lions, sparked by two Pioneer attack errors, put the hosts in front for good. Dowling eventually won the game by a 25-19 scoreline.
In the third set, the Golden Lions again pulled away late. Leading by a slight two-point margin (20-18), Dowling scored five of the game's final six points, capped by a
Weronika Wiezik (Szczyrk, Poland) kill, to secure the sweep.

Head Coach
Shellane Ogoshi and the Pioneers return to action Thursday (Oct. 22), when they return home to face ECC foe Molloy College at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
