BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2015) - On Sunday, the LIU Post volleyball team posted a stellar .449 hitting percentage, en route to a 3-0 victory against Roberts Wesleyan College in an East Coast Conference match at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers (15-5, 3-2 ECC) ran away with the first set, taking it by a count of 25-11. Hitting at a .433 clip in the game, LIU Post jumped out to a 21-9 advantage in the set, behind a 17-5 run. Freshman middle hitter
Elise Strange (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Pioneers with five kills in the opening game. Senior setter/right-side hitter
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) added four kills.
In the second set, the Pioneers trailed 15-14, until a 6-1 run put the hosts ahead, 20-16. Sophomore outside/middle/right-side hitter
Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied the go-ahead point with a service ace, and later slammed down the second of her two kills in the set to win it for LIU Post, 25-18.
Tied 3-3 early in the third set, the green and gold used a 7-2 spurt to grab a 10-5 lead. Valenza led the way in the burst, notching three kills.
The Pioneers, who hit .387 in the game, maintained a five-point edge for much of the set. LIU Post then secured the sweep with an 8-3 run, paced by three service aces, to earn a 25-16 victory.
Valenza finished with a double-double on the afternoon, collecting 17 digs and 10 kills. Strange and Londot registered nine kills apiece. Amador chipped in eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Freshman setter
Giulia Genna (Civitella San Paolo, Italy) dished out 37 assists and recorded seven digs.

Shellane Ogoshi and the Pioneers return to action Tuesday (Oct. 13), when they wrap up a four-match homestand at the Pratt Recreation Center against ECC rival New York Institute of Technology. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
