BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 29, 2015) - On Thursday, the LIU Post men's basketball team used an early scoring burst to ride to a 74-61 win versus UDC in East Coast Conference action at the Pratt Recreation Center.

The Pioneers (10-9, 5-6 ECC) started the contest on a 13-2 tear, led by Aary Bibens' (Bennington, Vt.) nine points in the run. Senior forward Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) opened the scoring with a pair of free throws.

LIU Post, which shot a scintillating 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the floor in the first half, twice built a lead as many as 17 points in the period. It took a commanding 36-22 advantage into the break.

UDC (4-15, 4-7 ECC) got out to a strong start though in the second half, as it closed the gap to 10 points just 1:24 in. An Omar Abbas (Alexandria, Egypt) three made it a 38-28 game at the 18:36 mark.

However, the green and gold answered with a 14-2 spurt in a span of 3:40 to pull away from the Firebirds. The Pioneers had five different scorers in the streak. Junior guard Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) accounted for four points, three of which came off a transition trey, while senior guard P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hit a lay-up on the fast break.

Williams led LIU Post in scoring for the fourth-consecutive game, pouring in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out two assists. Torres collected 13 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench. Bibens pitched in 13 points, as well. Sophomore forward Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) had eight points, six boards and two blocks.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and the Pioneers return to the hardwood Wednesday (Feb. 4), when they continue their four-game homestand against Bridgeport at the Pratt Recreation Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
