BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 10, 2014) - The two-time defending national champion LIU Post women's lacrosse team has been dubbed Lacrosse Magazine's top-ranked squad heading into the 2014 campaign, as announced Friday in the publication's Preseason Top-10 tally.

The Pioneers, coached by Meghan McNamara (East Northport, N.Y.), were one of just two teams from the East Coast Conference to find the ledger. Dowling made its debut at No. 9.

LIU Post went 20-0 in 2013, including a 7-0 clip in East Coast Conference play, en route to a league crown and its second-consecutive national championship. The Pioneers defeated Limestone in the title game, 10-7, after beating nearby rival Adelphi, 7-6, in a thrilling semifinal contest.

The green and gold will be led by senior attacker Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.), who currently holds the Division II record for points, and leads all of NCAA (I, II, III) in assists. Oher key players returning for the Pioneers are senior midfielder Katie Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.), senior defender Melissa Rohr (Plainview, N.Y.), senior attacker/midfielder Samantha Losco (Smithtown, N.Y.), and senior attacker Morgan Chiarenza (Nesconset, N.Y.).

LIU Post starts up the 2014 season on Saturday, Mar. 1, when it hosts Bloomsburg at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m.
