KINGS POINT, N.Y.
(Dec. 12, 2010) – C.W. Post's women's swimming was just edged out points wise during a meet against Rowan University on Saturday, 145-141. The Pioneers took first place in 10 events on the day; however it was not enough to make up the points accumulated by Rowan during diving events.

During the two relay events on the day, the Pioneer “A” teams took both events with first place qualifying times. In the 200 Medley Relay, the first event of the day, C.W. Post put together of a time of 1:50.49 with the team of senior Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario), sophomores Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) and Cornelia Hanes (Stockhom, Sweden), and freshman Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) putting forth the solid effort. The trio of Kirstein, Hanes, and Cassidy later came back with sophomore Kristina Fritsch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to take the 400 Free Relay in a time of 3:40.77.

Mathilde Hyddmark
(Lund, Sweden) joined in on the team first place finishes with her victory in the 200 Free. Her time of 2:01.57 just edged out teammate Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom) by one second during the events.

Hanes and Cassidy each added to their relay wins with two individual victories during events respectively. Hanes earned both her wins in sprint events through the 50 Free with a time of 24.48 and a time of 53.89 during the 100 Free. Cassidy's times of 2:14.04 during the 200 Butterfly and 59.52 in the 100 Fly were good enough to accomplish both of her victories.

Even with many different relay and individual victories for the Pioneers, Garriock turned in one of the more impressive performances on the year with three individual wins along with her one relay win. Her first win came during the 100 Back with a time of 1:07.77. She then followed that up with a win in the 200 Back, turning in a winning time of 2:25.72. The 2:09.97 during the 200 Individual Medley later finished off her day of wins.

The swim team will now take off from competitions for the next month and will not compete until after the New Year when the Pioneers will welcome East Stroudsburg to the Pratt Recreation Center for a dual-meet on January 12, 2011 at 7 p.m.
