Megan Butterworth enters her sixth season as an assistant coach for the LIU Post softball program in 2019.
In each of her first three years with the Pioneers, Butterworth has coached the eventual ECC Pitcher of the Year (Liz Weber - 2014, Ashley Martin - 2015, Hannah Olshevski - 2016).
Butterworth coached one of the region's top pitching tandems in 2016, as Ashley Martin and Hannah Olshevski combined to post a stellar 37-15 record with 207 strikeouts in 367.2 innings pitched. Olshevski went on to receive ECC Pitcher of the Year distinction as a freshman, after leading the East Coast Conference in wins and complete games (25), while ranking second in ERA, third in batting average against (.223) and fourth in shutouts (5).
In 2015, Butterworth's knowledge aided the pitching staff in leading the ECC and ranking in the Top-25 in the nation in earned-run average (2.05). The Pioneers also yielded the second-fewest hits (314) and runs (142) in the league, while striking out the second-most batters (223). Additionally, Butterworth aided Ashley Martin in obtaining ECC Pitcher of the Year accolades. As a sophomore, Martin was a force in the circle, compiling an 18-6 record with a 1.61 ERA and 120 strikeouts. She limited opposing hitters to a stingy .211 batting average against, as well.
A 2014 NFCA East Region Coaching Staff of the Year selection, Butterworth made an immediate impact on the LIU Post pitching staff. She oversaw the undoubted success of the 2014 ECC Pitcher of the Year Liz Weber, who pitched to the tune of a career-best 25 wins and five losses with a 2.27 earned-run average. Butterworth helped Martin to her first 16 decisions, while completing the year with a 16-2 overall record, boasting five shutouts to her account. In addition, Megan Salcido won six of eight contests, including a dominant complete-game two-hit shutout in the decisive third game of the NCAA East Super Regional against Caldwell.
Butterworth comes to LIU Post after an outstanding career at East Coast Conference rival Molloy College, where she finished with a remarkable 89-25 record, recording 948 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.62, while logging 795.1 innings in the circle. Not only a force on the rubber, Butterworth averaged .287 from the plate, knocking 45 doubles and 76 RBI over a four-year span as well.
In 2013, she was a recipient of the E.C.C. (Excellence in Community and Character) Award, along with being named the ECC and Daktronics Inc. East Region Pitcher of the Year. That same season, Butterworth, a four-time All-ECC and three-time Daktronics All-Region first-team pick, was also selected to the NFCA All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-America second-teams.
Plus, she bookended her career with a pair of NCAA Division II East Region titles, and College World Series appearances (2010 & 2013).
Butterworth completed her B.S. in Adolescent Math Education at Molloy, and currently resides in North Bellmore, N.Y.
