BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – In a back-and-forth battle, the LIU Post baseball team used a three-run inning in the bottom of the ninth to prevail 10-9 over the New York Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon at the LIU Post Baseball Stadium.
With 30 regular season wins, LIU Post has already secured the most regular season wins in program history with four regular season contests still on the schedule.
Senior
Michael Manzione led the way for the Pioneers with three hits and two RBI while seniors
Anthony Vaglica and
Dave Brehm along with sophomore
Christopher Wasson each added two hits and one RBI. Senior
Michael Greene, redshirt junior
Andy Camilo and junior
Andy Camilo added one hit apiece.
Junior
Mike Lazos earned the win for LIU Post, throwing two clutch strikes in 1.2 innings. Junior duo
Mike Stiles and
Julien Arcos also saw action on the mound for the Pioneers.
The Pioneer bats started off hot, tallying three hits in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to right field by Manzione giving LIU Post an early 1-0 advantage. Wasson would then rip an RBI single through the right side in the bottom of the second to give LIU post a 2-0 advantage.
The Bears took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third but the Pioneers battled back in the bottom of the frame and jumped ahead 5-2. Fritz knocked an RBI double to left center and Greene had an RBI single to left field.
LIU Post continued to pile on the runs in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double to left field by Vaglica and an RBI single to right field by Brehm giving the Pioneers a 7-3 lead.
From the top of the fifth to the top of the ninth the Bears added six runs to take a 9-4 lead but the Pioneers rallied late to overcome the deficit. Brehm scored on an error at catcher then Manzione hit an RBI single down the right field line to tie the score, 9-9. With the bases loaded, senior
Reynaldo Guillen walked and Manzione scored to give the Pioneers a 10-9 victory.
