WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced LIU Post women's basketball graduate student
Sasha Patterson as the league's Player of the Year at the conference's annual banquet ahead of championship weekend on Friday, March 8. The ECC also tabbed redshirt-junior guard
Taylah Hudson as an all-conference honoree during the all-conference announcement.
Patterson concludes her final season of competition with the conference's highest honor, fulfilling the preseason coaches' vote on the award. The Brooklyn native earned Preseason Player of the Year recognition and was nothing short of outstanding on the floor all season long. Patterson was the only ECC player to average double figures in rebounding this season (10.2) and ranks 16th nationally with 16 double-doubles on the year. A threat in the low block, Patterson dominated the opposition with 25 games with 10 points or more, averaging 15.7 points per game in conference play with 11 rebounds per tilt. Patterson was one of the best in the country on the glass this season, ranking third in Division II with five offensive boards per game.
Along with Patterson, Hudson garners third-team All-ECC recognition for the first time in her career. Hudson averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 assists per game for the Pioneers during conference play and posted 79 assists overall on the season. On five occasions, Hudson tallied five or more assists and scored a career-high 22 points in 26 minutes at Felician earlier this season.
The duo will look to keep LIU Post's championship hopes alive tomorrow afternoon as the Pioneers take on No. 1 seed Saint Thomas Aquinas College at 12:00 p.m. at the Harvey Hubble Gymnasium on the campus of the University of Bridgeport.
