WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Another successful week for LIU Post athletics led to four student-athletes being recognized by the East Coast Conference as players of the week on Monday.

Freshman Jake Gillis earned men's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, junior Kaitlyn Klein garnered women's track & field Field Athlete of the Week, junior Allie Laird was named softball Player of the Week, and senior Dave Brehm was tabbed as baseball's Player of the Week.

Gillis garners his fourth ECC weekly award, though the weekly honor is his first Offensive Player of the Week accolade. The freshman attacker led LIU Post with 12 goals on the week, scoring an even six goals against No. 1 Adelphi and Roberts Wesleyan College. Gillis compiled 14 total points on the week, adding two assists against the Redhawks to help the Pioneers improve to 2-0 in ECC play.

Klein opened outdoor season on a high note at the Wagner College Invitational on Saturday, winning the discus throw (119'6) and shot put (36'7).  She also earned a third-place finish in the hammer throw (130'10''). The hammer throw was a personal best in the event.

The red-hot bat of Laird has helped softball to seven-consecutive victories. Out of the leadoff position, Laird hit .667 last week over four contests, ripping three doubles and one solo home run. Trailing in the sixth inning against Wilmington, Laird lifted a game-tying home run to right-center field to help LIU Post come from behind for the win.

Appearing in four games, Brehm had a standout week at the plate for the Pioneers. Finishing 8-for-17 with seven runs scored, six RBI and three stolen bases. Brehm helped the LIU Post offense explode during a four-game sweep of Lincoln University in ECC play.
