Wasson continued his strong start to the season with a single to left field in the top of the first. He was then caught stealing with Manzione at bat. Wasson was then involved in a double play in the bottom of the second after throwing to freshman David Franchi at second base who then relayed the ball to junior Zach Fritz at first.

The top of the third saw Mendyk single to right field and Brehm follow with a single to left field. While Wasson then reached on a fielder's choice, Brehm was out at second. Tampa ended the third inning grounding into another Pioneer double play.

Tampa showed why they are the second-ranked team in the nation in the bottom of the fourth as they put five runs on the scoreboard.

Brehm led off the top of the sixth with a single to left field and Wasson followed by drawing a walk. Vaglica was then out on a fielder's choice that saw Wasson advance to second and Brehm to third. The Spartans managed to prevent the Pioneers from scoring for the remainder of the inning then add another two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
