BUFFALO, N.Y. – A fourth-quarter rally temporarily gave the LIU Post women's basketball team the lead, but it was not enough to hold off regionally-ranked Daemen College on Friday, Feb. 15 as the Pioneers dropped an East Coast Conference matchup, 60-53 inside Lumsden Gymnasium.
Trailing by as many as nine points (49-40) with 9:23 remaining, the Pioneers used a 13-3 run to take a 53-52 lead with 2:26 to play. After Daemen missed two free throws on the following possession, the Pioneers could not take advantage on the offensive end and the Wildcats retook the lead with two free throws at the 1:34 mark. Daemen's defense took control the rest of the way, holding LIU Post to 0-for-5 shooting from the field during the final two minutes and the Wildcats went a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line to hold on for the win, clinching an ECC playoff berth in the process.

Robyn Francis was the lone Pioneer in double figures, scoring 14 points on 4-of-12 (.333) shooting. Freshman
Ja'Lyn Armstrong had a strong game on the defensive end, registering three steals and one block, while also chipping in eight points on 4-of-10 (.400) shooting. As a team, the Green and Gold shot just 26-percent (16-61) from the floor and 20-percent (3-15) from beyond the arc. Daemen did not fare much better from the field, netting just 32-percent (21-65) of its shot attempts overall and 18-percent (4-22) of its attempts from long distance. The difference came on the glass, however, as the Wildcats held a 54-41 edge in rebounding, led by a 13-rebound effort by Katie Titus who posted a double-double with 17 points.
After a day off, the Pioneers will wrap up their western New York swing with a matchup against Roberts Wesleyan College inside the Voller Athletic Center on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2:00 p.m.
