WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Two second-half goals helped the LIU Post women's soccer team tie Pace University, 2-2, in a contest shortened by lightning on Sept. 26.
Trailing during the second half, the Pioneers found the back of the net twice to take the lead before a late penalty kick leveled the scoring for good. Sophomore
Sydney Pasquarella started the comeback effort during the 73rd minute, bending in a shot from 20 yards out to level the scoring at 1-1.
Late in the period, fellow sophomore
Samantha Gordon found a loose ball off of a corner kick and slid home the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Moments later, however, Pace tied the score for good when Victoria Kealy buried a penalty kick just before the game was called for good.
Following an hour-long delay, the two sides agreed to end the contest after 87:47.
The Pioneers overcame a 9-3 disadvantage in shots on goal as senior goalkeeper
Hillevi Eklow made seven save during the contest.
LIU Post returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 when it travels to Roberts Wesleyan College for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with the Redhawks.
