OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The 15th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team saw its five-game win streak snapped by the Queens College Knights after suffering a 2-1 setback at President's Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
With the loss, LIU Post falls to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in East Coast Conference play, while Queens improves to 4-3-1 and matches the Pioneers with a 2-1 mark in league play.
Despite winning the possession battle, Queens held a 15-10 advantage in shot attempts, including a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Senior
Oliver Hessner Hansen stopped a season-high eight shots, but two tallies within one minute proved to be the difference.
It was all LIU Post early on, as the offensive pressure led to a foul against Queens leading to a penalty kick opportunity during the 12th minute. Graduate student
Lukas Ostermann buried the attempt to the left side for his league-leading ninth goal, putting the Pioneers ahead, 1-0.
Less than 10 minutes later, Romario Hulea took a pass from Cristian Villalta and beat Hessner Hansen to level the scoring at 1-1. Just 48 seconds later, Hulea found the back of the net again to give Queens a 2-1 advantage.
The same score line continued deep into the second half. The Green and Gold had a great opportunity midway through the half when Ostermann buried a volleyed shot under the crossbar but was called back due to an offside call. The Germany native had another great look late, heading a ball on target off a set piece but could not find the back of the net.
LIU Post will look to bounce back on Saturday, Sept. 29 when they travel across the state to Roberts Wesleyan College for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
