BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Director of Athletics
Debbie DeJong announced that
Stephanie Sheehan has been elevated to the position of head women's volleyball coach for the 2018 season June 25.
"We are excited to have Stephanie guide our program," commented DeJong. "Having served on the coaching staff last season, she has an incredible knowledge of the program and possesses a unique set of qualities as a coach and former student-athlete. Her passion for the sport makes her a great fit for us."
Sheehan who served as an assistant coach for the 2017 season, will take over for Amanda Ostapow after the two-year head coach stepped down last week due to professional conflicts.
"I would like to thank Amanda Ostapow for two years of hard work and dedication during her tenure. She helped to lift our program to a new level and helped pave the path for us to be successful moving forward," said DeJong.
During her one season as an assistant, she helped mentor the East Coast Conference Player of the Year and ECC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in
Rachel Londot. Sheehan also helped guide the Pioneers to an appearance in the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament and a 28-6 overall mark in 2017.
As a player, Sheehan was a four-year starter at Merrimack College, ranking second all-time with 1,527 kills, including a program record 466 during the 2013 season as an outside hitter. During her career she was a three-time All-Northeast-10 selection.
The Green and Gold will open play for the 2018 campaign on Friday, August 24 when they take on Franklin Pierce University on day one of the Raven First Serve Invitational in Rindge, N.H.
