Softball's Klaiber, Men's Lacrosse's Snelders Nab ECC Weekly Honors

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Following a breakout week and a historic performance, LIU Post freshmen Breanna Klaiber and William Snelders earned East Coast Conference weekly honors as announced by the league office April 2.

Snelders captured ECC men's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Klaiber was tabbed as the ECC softball Rookie of the Week. The recognition marks Snelders' second weekly honor of his young career and Klaiber's first.

The freshman attacker out of Port Jefferson Station had a performance for the ages against Roberts Wesleyan College in ECC action on Saturday, March 31. Snelders tallied 10 goals in the game, scoring seven in the first half and three during the final 30 minutes. The performance cemented a place in the NCAA Division II record book, as he tied for the sixth-most goals scored by an individual in a single game. Snelders and Lake Erie College's Edmond Renaud are tied for the most goals in Division II this season, as the duo became the first players since Adelphi's Wesley Green tallied 10 during the 2006 season.

Klaiber had an outstanding week for the LIU Post softball team as well, hitting .476 with four extra-base hits and 10 runs batted in. The Ohio native had a breakout performance against St. Thomas Aquinas College on March 27, finishing 4-for-7 with four extra-base hits and five RBIs. After going 0-for-2 with two walks in game one against Merrimack College, Klaiber closed out the weekend with six hits and five RBIs over her final three games against Merrimack and Bentley University.

The LIU Post softball team is slated to take on the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday, April 3, while the Pioneer men's lacrosse team will host Post University on Wednesday, April 4.
