Women's Rugby Drops Spring Opener to Molloy, 25-5

SCORING SUMMARY

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's rugby team came up short in the team's first contest of the spring season, falling to Molloy College 25-5 at Blitz Field March 30.

It was an unexpectedly rain-soaked afternoon for the team's opening contest during the spring portion of the schedule. Despite the conditions, the Pioneers looked solid through the first seven minutes of the contest, trailing 10-5 at the halftime break.

Molloy jumped ahead nearly two minutes in when Sabrina Rodriguez scored a try to put the Lions ahead 5-0. Less than two minutes later when Amber Wright leveled the scoring for the Pioneers, 5-5. The score remained deadlocked until the final minute of the first half when Rodriguez put Molloy ahead by five points at the break.

The Lions took control in the second half, shutting out the Pioneers to pull away for the 25-5 victory. Siobhan Coady, Maddie Howell, and Olivia Taylor all notched tries for Molloy, giving the Lions four different scorers on the afternoon.

The Pioneers return to action in two weeks when they travel up the east coast to Brunswick, Maine to battle Bowdoin College on Saturday, April 14.
