BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – A six-run seventh inning for Adelphi proved to be the difference as the LIU Post baseball team suffered a 10-6 defeat at the hands of the Panthers on Monday, March 19.
Sophomore
Zach Fritz finished with two hits for the Pioneers, while junior
Anthony Vaglica blasted a two-run home run in the eighth inning. On the mound sophomore southpaw
Noah Lorenzo tossed three innings in the start, allowing four runs on five hits. Classmate
Julien Arcos suffered the loss for the Pioneers, allowing six runs over five innings.
Daniel Taggart earned the win for Adelphi, allowing four runs on five hits over seven innings of work.
The Panthers plated a run in the second inning on an RBI-double down the right field line and added three more in the third with the big blow coming on a two-out two-run double by
Tyler Becker.
LIU Post rallied in the fourth, however. Scoring one run on a wild pitch in the third, the Pioneers pushed across three runs in the fourth on an infield single by Fritz, a sacrifice fly by junior
Michael Manzione, and a triple into the right field corner by junior
Jimmy Mendyk. Adelphi exploded for six runs on three hits and two LIU Post errors to take a commanding 10-4 lead in the top of the seventh though to halt the momentum for the Green and Gold.
Vaglica gave the Pioneers hope in the bottom of the eighth, launching a two-run shot to left field into the wind for his second home run of the season, but the Pioneers could not keep the rally going as they fell by the 10-6 final.
Tomorrow's scheduled contest against East Stroudsburg has been postponed due to the forecasted temperatures and wind chill in eastern Pennsylvania, so the Pioneers turn their attention to their East Coast Conference opener scheduled against the New York Institute of Technology at the LIU Post Baseball Field on Friday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m.
