Apicella Announces Softball's 2019 Slate

FULL 2019 SOFTBALL SCHEDULE

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Head coach Jamie Apicella released the 2019 slate of contests for the LIU Post softball team on Wednesday, Dec. 5. The 2019 schedule features 24 contests held at the LIU Post Softball Complex and five 2018 NCAA Division II Championship participants.

The 56-game schedule begins in the Sunshine State as the Green and Gold head to Clermont, Fla. to compete in the annual PFX Spring Games. It is no easy task to begin the season as the Pioneers square off in an East Super Regional rematch against the national runner-up Hawks of Saint Anselm College on March 3. While competing at the PFX games, the Pioneers will also face tough battles against the likes of Ashland University, Georgian Court University, and Grand Valley State University in single-game matchups.

LIU Post returns to the Northeast for a matchup with local rival Adelphi University in the first chapter with former assistant coach Carla Campagna at the helm of the Panthers' program. Following its first true road contest of the year at American International College on March 15, the Pioneers play host to the University of New Haven in a series that has given plenty of exciting matchups in recent history. Two days later the Pioneers will trek up to the other side of the Elm City to battle Southern Connecticut State University. The Green and Gold close out March with 10 of its next 12 games at the LIU Post Softball Complex, beginning their East Coast Conference title defense on the road at Mercy College on March 26 as the lone road series of the stretch.

As the calendar turns to April, the Pioneers will travel to Waterbury, Conn. to take on Post University in a non-conference series before returning home for six of its next eight league games on the home dirt. The middle of April features a tough road trip, as the Pioneers take on Saint Thomas Aquinas College and the University of Bridgeport in ECC play on April 13 and 16, while also traveling to Southern New Hampshire University on April 14 to take on last year's No. 2 seed in the East Region 2 bracket.

The final reigning NCAA participant on the schedule comes with another road test at Caldwell University on April 23 in the final non-conference game of the regular season. LIU Post closes out the regular season at neighboring New York Institute of Technology on April 25 before hosting Molloy College on Senior Day on April 27 in what could be a major matchup in terms of postseason seeding.

The true title defense begins on Day One of the ECC Championships on May 1, with a champion being crowned as part of Championship Saturday on May 4. The highest seed in the tournament will host each of the three days of the championship.

May 6 marks the release of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship field during the live selection show, with regional play set to begin on May 9.
